Gender Differences in Marketing & PR Blogs

Everyone knows that women dominate the PR field, right? Well, maybe not. At least not when marketing is thrown into the mix. Becky Carroll of Customer's Rock talked about the news that has the whole branding & marketing on line community abuzz: Todd And's Power 150 site is partnering with Ad Age.

I also read this news at Mack's Viral Garden and Gavin's Servant of Chaos... but what I found interesting on Becky's blog was this:

Kami Huyse of Communication Overtones points out that only 13% of the Power 150 are women. She shares the Top 20 PowerWomen of PR and Marketing (blogs) to help raise the awareness of top women bloggers. Thanks for the hat tip, Kami!

Hi Chris! Re Forrester marketing blog, Suresh is a guy - sits right next to me...I'm sure he wouldn't take it personally though! ;)

I should have known!! And all the times people think that I'm a guy because of my name, I should have realised!! Please convey my apologies to Suresh.

I have a friend Shirish who is a guy, but I wasn't sure about Suresh. So sorry!!

I'll have to maybe use an avatar?! Anything you'd like to use? Send me an email at cbrown @ resources-results.com if you have something you'd like to use in it's place.

Chris, thanks for bringing this to our attention. So only 13% of the top 150 are women and yet in Mary Clare Hunt's book In Women We Trust she shares that over 80% of all consumer products and services are purchased by women. So are the 83% men suggesting a softer marketing/pr approach to reach the buying public?

Chris, thanks for highlighting this. It is pretty amazing, huh?!

Rock on, Chris!

You raise an interesting point. I'm not sure all of the marketing/PR blogs are consumer focused blogs, I suspect most, like mine, are B-B for business professionals, not for the general consumer. It's worth a look, although I'm still on the hunt for b-b manufacturing bloggers who are service professionals.

Chris, what a beautiful way to capture the PR Power Women! I love it. I also just realized that I know one of the Forrester women bloggers!

Thanks, and thanks for your comment.

Hi Chris - thanks for putting this together .. great fun and and an honor to be among this group of talented women. Guess it was a good thing that I had that photo taken because I have the opposite "name" challenge of Suresh .. people assume (even with the diva-pink skin of my blog) I'm a guy. :-)
