Using "The Next Big 2.0 Thing" in Your Marketing & Branding
Being able to use the "next big thing" in your marketing and branding is an on-going mission for me. I believe that some of these tools may help build brand awareness and strengthen a marketing message. But before you can use the next big thing, you have to identify it, use it, be familiar with it and then really see if it applies to your business.
Some days, I feel like it is tough to just stay on top of what the "current big thing" is and understand it enough to use it and help our clients use it. Today Laurence-Helene's post offers a visual map of Web 2.0 applications. If you too are working to stay current, you may find this Web 2.0 Landscape chart interesting and helpful. I decided to see how many I use on a regular basis. I see that I have a long way to go before I'm regularly using all the of tools available.
Laurence-Helene asks, "What's the next big thing?" Along those same lines I'm asking you, "What web 2.0 applications are you currently using that you find really work for your marketing and branding?" Please leave me a comment about some of these or other Web 2.0 applications.

Hey Chris! You are so right! I just started working now after Uni with viral marketing, network and community marketing. It's really crazy how many sites I need to have information from and reach.
The maps you posted are really great, but I wonder, where is Facebook? We have our landing-page there. Check it out, http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2597035518. It should also be on the chart, right?

Yes, facebook should be in the bottom left quadrant. I believe that Laurence-Helene added it to her version of this chart.
There are hundreds of web 2.0 applications, the hard part is separating what works great, what applies to your business and trying to keep up with the upgrades.

Hi Chris,
To answer your question, in my opinion the best web 2.0 applications out there for marketing and branding are:
- Blogs - readily available information and it's fun
- youtube - good when embedded in a blog as it definitely makes posts more exciting
- LinKed in - good for awareness and can also be linked to your blog ;)
I am a fan of blogs too. So, the Web 2.0 I keep up with the most is MyBlogLog. It's not on the map, but with all the stuff out there, I can't imagine it all could be (but there's a project for someone.) I am guessing it would also go in the bottom left.
Lolly: I agree that Linked In is great... and YouTube when used correctly is too...
April: I also use My Blog Log to post the faces of visitors on my blog... but I don't "get" the whole way they do the communities. I guess its like another blogroll, but it's too many clicks to finally get to the blog and back to post a comment. I think it still needs work... Just my opinion.
