Removing No Follow as a Link strategy and Conversation Continuer

Does your site have a "no follow" command for comments?

I didn't know what that meant for a while, but I think I do now. If you use blogger's blogspot like I do, it automatically sets up the comments as a "no follow". What that means is that when people comment and type in their blog address, there will not be a link formed that Google or Technorati could track.

I'm trying to get more comments to keep the conversation going. Isn't that the whole point with social media? Not just to give me a soapbox to expound about marketing and branding... but to actually host a forum where lots of people can leave comments, questions and criticisms to further the conversation.

I removed the "No Follow" command from my template. So now, my site should be more search engine friendly to my commenters. The way I understand it, if anyone comments and leaves their website address, Google, Technorati and other search engines can now follow it as a link.

In theory more people will comment now. We'll see if it makes any difference. Hopefully they don't comment just to get a link, but to actually add to the discussion.

I am surprised that more folks haven't commented on the "no follow" as a strategy to increase comments and get more links.

it appears that you have changed your mind about no follow or have not removed it all. I see that the comment here is blocked for following.

I haven't changed my mind, but when I switched templates in blogger, I can't find where the no follow code is embedded and it must be in there somewhere. I thought the comments were still being followed. Do you have any insites into fixing this?

I dug deep into the template -- you have to select "expand template widgets" -- and found that little bit of code that says "nofollow" and deleted it.

Now I think I'm back to having the the follow command working again!
