Press Releases: The NEW Rules of PR

Back in June 2006 I mentioned The New Rules of PR. Now David Meerman Scott has revised and added to the book for 2007. Although the presentation isn't fancy, the information is very powerful.

One thing stays the same, it's still available free for download as a 30 page PDF.

Some of his tips, paraphrased.

  • Instead of writing a press release for newspapers, write your press release for Google.
  • Write and post on every month. It's on the 28-day news release, because that's the Google cycle.
  • Create a release that is rich with keywords. Tie it to a current event.
  • Use BusinessWire & PRWeb to get your release time expanded beyond the 28-day cycle.

PRWeb for many years was a free e-release distribution method. Now there is a fee, but I believe it is still very affordable for the value that PRWeb delivers.

All good ideas. Now updated for 2007. Worth a look.

Before you start sending out releases, have your website optimized for your keywords. Then issuing a press release every 28 days with the keywords included in it provides a clear roadmap for potential customers to find you on the internet.

Need help writing your press releases? Three choices:

Rachel talked about putting things in prespective in her blog post on 02/06/07. Here's the link: http://thechallengeoflife.blogspot.com/2007/02/on-sunday-night-my-husband-son-and-i.html

I suggested she check out www.miniature-earth.com for a beautifully illustrated powerpoint version. I found the link thanks to Garr Reynolds at Presentation Zen, www.presentationzen.com
