Best Day to Send Marketing Email - Q2 2006 report

What is the best day to send e-mail? Like so many of the answers in marketing, I'd have to say "it depends."

Trying to reach a business? Business customers prefer receiving email on Tuesday, followed closely by Monday. Don't bother at the end of the week.

Trying to reach a consumer? Consumers prefer getting marketing email on Friday. The second best day to email consumers is on Wednesday.

In general open rates are all just over 33% and the click through rate hovers at around 5%.

This report was based on only 300 respondents, which is not really a big enough sampling to cover both consumer and business, but it does provide some direction.

Thanks to Anita Campbell, editor of Small Business Trends, who mentioned the Vertical Response link that lead me to this report.

"As an aside, I happen to think that the Vertical Response blog is one of the best-done blogs by a small business. I frequently am asked to suggest examples of world-class small business blogs, and Vertical Response is one that I usually walk people through."

Interesting info in your post. I kind of had the "Tuesday for business e-mail" timing figured out, but didn't realize that consumers preferred to be contact on Fridays. I guess I just assumed that they didn't want to be bothered at the end of the week either.
